Approximately 2 hrs.: Ischemia (lack of blood flow) affects different tissues differently. In the extremities, muscle is the most sensitive tissue and can start breaking down after a couple of hours. 6 hours of ischemic time can lead to significant muscle damage in addition to nerve damage. Prolonged ischemia can lead to muscle breakdown, the products of which can also cause severe kidney damage.
