Several ways: First, be checked to see if ongoing pain is not do to something that was not addressed, or not fully addressed by surgery or whether you failed to heal the fusion. Rarely, in males especially, a solid posterior fusion does not always address pain from a disc that can still bear load & cause pain if no interbody fusion. Adjacent segments should be checked. Needs further workup: Failed back syndrome needs to be worked up by your spinal specialist to really find the underlying cause for your pain. There may be a possibility that you do not have a solid fusion. Further surgery may be warranted. If you do have a solid fusion then there is a possibility that certain medications may help you. Ultimately maybe, a spinal cord stimulator will help.
