Yes: The amount of nitrogen waste produced by the body is an important factor in regulating kidney filtration capacity and the more protein you eat more nitrogen is formed leading to excessive filtration and over time an overload of the kidney filtrating units with potential to loose them sooner than otherwise. This is moslty true for people who already have some filtrarion loss with kidney disease.
