Get an exam.: Several possibilities for the burning in your chest. Most likely, gastresophageal reflux (gerd) caused by sphincter dysfunction between stomach and esophagus. Caustic stomach acid backwashes to inflame the esophagus. Burning in the chest is an atypical sign of heart attack in women, unlikely at your age. Smoke/smog irritate and inflame lungs. Strained, inflamed rib muscles may feel like burning.
