Both vaccines contain the same virus, but the shingles vaccine contains about 14 times more virus particles compared to the chicken pox vaccine. The chicken pox vaccine is 2 doses, for children or adults. The shingles vaccine is 1 dose, for adults in the senior age group.

Vaccines : The chicken pox vaccine prevents chicken pox; the shingles vaccine prevents shingles... In theory this is the answer. Also, in theory if you get the chicken pox vaccine you cannot get chicken pox and since you have to have had chicken pox to get shingles then you can never get shingles if you have not had chicken pox. As your md for a details of your particular situation.
