Cervical spine issue: It may be postural or pillow related but you need to get checked for cervical spine disorders. Muscle tension may also cause that.

Muscles or arthritis: Morning stiffness is a common symptom with arthritis and muscular pain. These two things can also be related. Another possibility would be sleeping position, such as head turned or tilted significantly to one side. In addition to trying to keep your head in a relatively neutral position while sleeping, i would recommend a stretching and exercise program.

Spondylosis: Cervical Spondylosis is the term for the changes of osteoarthritis that can occur in the spine and this often will present with a "morning stiffness" that will gradually improve over the day. Don't hesitate to be seen to confirm the diagnosis and to discuss treatment options.
