What exactly is a bilateral subcostal incision for hepatectomy?

Upside-Down "V" : The subcostal space is the portion of the abdomen just below the lower edge of the ribcage. The described incision runs parallel to the edge of the ribcage on both sides of the abdomen. This is also known as a "chevron" incision. Btw-"hepatectomy" means liver resection, if that was part of the question, as well.

Big incision: A bilateral subcostal incision is one placed horizontally about one inch below the ribs. It usually start far on the right side, comes up diagonally to the middle, and then over to the left, angling down again but not typically as far over as on the right.
