Deafness: Aging along with several diseases of the tympanic membrane, middle ear, and inner ear and also brain disease. Environmental factors such as xcessive loud noises can also cause deafness.

Hearing loss: Causes: external ear- wax, otitis, fur uncle. Osteomas middle ear: otitis, eustachian tube dysfunction, mastoiditis, perforated ear drum, otosclerosis inner ear: sensorineural deafness, meneires disease.

Too numerous: The major causes of hearing loss in childhood are genetic, infection, and trauma. In adults, the major causes are age, noise, head injury, genetics, various antibiotics and also impacted wax. A total list of causes of hearing loss would be too large to mention in this limited space. But I think these are the most common causes.
