Some: There are some casess who regain more function after only one or two episodes who can go on to lead close to normal lives. See nami for info on recovery and schizophrenia. There is a book titled the center cannnot hold by a ellyn sachs a lawyer from yale law school who has schizophrenia and has made a career advocating for the rights of mentally ill people. Hers was not a simple case.

Sure: Many folks in fact. The one single thing that may most impact the ability to live on one's own with schizophrenia is taking and staying on the medication. Other than that, maintaining a healthy life style by getting enough sleep, eating properly and avoiding drugs and alcohol are also very important.
