Yes some do.: Addiction is an equal opportunity disease so anybody can become addicted. There are many excellent addiction medicine specialists who were once addicted to drugs/alcohol, got treatment, fell in love with addiction treatment (and their stable recovery) and decided to become an addiction medicine specialist themselves.

Yes: Doctors are people like everyone else. Some physicians do suffer from alcohol or drug abuse/dependence. It can be difficult for them to admit that they have a problem, and because of the responsibility they have for their patient's healthcare, the consequences of alcohol or drug problems can affect not only them, but also their patients. Most states have groups that can offer help to docs for this.
