Muscle v. Rib Injury: Cramps connote a muscular etiology. The musculature about your chest wall is up against your rib cage. The cramps you are feeling could be casued by an injury to the actual muscles, or the cramping is a response to an underlying injury to your ribs (stress fracture or actual rib fracture). A rib fracture would necessitiate a history of an injury (e.g. A fall on left side). Xrays are indicated.
