Pregnant or not?: Blood turns brownish after bleeding occurs. Blood coming through the vagina can be from the vaginal walls, cervix, uterus or, if pregnant, placenta. Blood coming from nearby structures can be from bladder or bowel. It is one of those conditions that requires an exam by a primary care physician, preferably while it is still occurring. If pregnant, a woman should report it to OB provider immediately.
