To the fetus, yes: The abortion pill Mifepristone causes the death of the fetus by blocking progesterone. Another medication is used to help empty the uterus. Mifepristone is for use during the first 7 weeks of pregnancy. Rare cases of women's deaths from infection, after Mifepristone abortion, have been reported (about 1/100, 000). Sepsis, not the medication, is presumed to be the cause of those rare deaths.

Death and suffering: The intent of the abortive pills is obviously destroying the pregnancy content, thus death to the unborn. The risks to mom--can varies from minor bleeding/cramping to hemorrhaging, blood clot formation/embolism, and maybe death, depending on how far the pregnancy is. There is also psychological suffering for many after the event which may last for years. Please don't make hasty decision. Good luck.

Sex is risky: Pregnancy can cause death. Abortion can cause death. What is important is to limit the chances of getting pregnant (or infected) until both are ready to have a baby. Approaches such as abstinence, contraception and condom use by both partners have been successful with minimal chance of death. Checking with doctor recommending abortion pills is good way to find out individual risk from taking them.
