Many: Many possibilities: drug intoxication, especially with hallucinogens; drug withdrawal, such as alcohol; sometimes bipolar disorder; schizophrenia; delirium -- where acute medical conditions affect mental functioning; some forms of dementia also. Sometimes severe psychotic depression can show this as well.
