No: It isn't common, however there are rare cases when an ovarian tumor or complex cyst can put pressure of the ureter and cause inflammation of the tissue surrounding the ureter. This causes obstruction of the flow out of the kidney resulting in pain. If you are known to have a cyst and are having kidney pain, see your doctor to determine if they are related.
