It can be: Abortion can be done with medication or with a surgical procedure. Like any medication treatment or surgical procedure there are potential risks. Surgery is generally riskier than taking a medication. There are things that increase your risk which include having underlying medical problems or having an abortion later on in your pregnancy.

Possibly: Anytime one undergoes a surgical procedure, there are small but measurable risks. First trimester abortions (less than 16 weeks) are the safest with a significant majority of women tolerating the procedure well. As the gestation increases, so do the risks. Insist on an in-depth discussion of the risks and benefits of the proposed procedure. Ask questions!
