Tonsils out?: There are many reasons for removal of the tonsils -- recurrent tonsillits, usually at least six episodes in the last year or four episodes in the past six months; one tonsil larger than the other; large tonsils causing airway obstruction -- snoring or sleep apnea; peritonsillar abscess; and a seldom seen diphtheria carrier.
