Days to weeks: Usually a few days to a couple of weeks, by that time the swelling caused by surgery is gone. After a month, if you are not feeling any difference, talk to your doctor. You will probably need a sleep study.

What kind?: What type of surgery did you have? It depends. Some people feel great relief as soon as they are healed. Some never feel better, but their apnea is measurably improved when confirmed by a follow-up sleep study. Talk to your md or sleep specialist about this.
