Effective short term: Otc nasal sprays are very effective for short term relief of nasal congestion but they should never be used for longer than 5 days. Congestion that lasts for longer than this should be evaluated by an ENT physician.

Nasal sprays: Nasal sprays can be very effective at unclogging the nose. However some over the counter sprays like afrin can be habit forming and loose their effectiveness with chronic use. The best spray to use a lot is saline nasal spray. In some allergic conditions your physician can prescribe steroid spray or antihistamine spray and those work well.
