Many possibilities: Caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, stimulants, lack of sleep, stress, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and fatigue are the usual suspects. Thyroid excess, some drugs, and many forms of heart disease are present in the minority. If you're troubled, you should get checked. An ekg, holter, echo, chest x-ray and blood samples for potassium, magnesium, thyroid, and kidney function are the basic workup.
