Recessive trait: Blue eyes are inherited as a recessive trait. This means you must have the "blue eyed gene" from both parents. Brown eyes are dominant which means you only need one "brown eyed gene" to have brown eyes. Your father must have one blue eyed and one brown eyed gene, and your mother has 2 blue eyed genes. Your inherited one from each of them. Ethnic background has nothing to do with it.
