Very possible: Having a blue eyed parent and another parent with a recessive gene for blue eyes can lead to blue eyes. You probably have a distant ancestor with blue eyes.

Simple answer: Your brown eyed father gave you a blue eye gene but has brown eyes because that gene dominates the blue. Your mother could only give you a blue eye gene, since she carries 2 to have blue eyes.

Two genes did it: If mom had blue eyes she could only give you a blue gene. For you to have blue eyes, your dad had to carry a silent blue gene that he gave to you rather than his dominant brown gene. It doesn't matter how many cultures the genes passed through. This is straightforward stuff.

Recessive trait: Blue eyes are inherited as a recessive trait. This means you must have the "blue eyed gene" from both parents. Brown eyes are dominant which means you only need one "brown eyed gene" to have brown eyes. Your father must have one blue eyed and one brown eyed gene, and your mother has 2 blue eyed genes. Your inherited one from each of them. Ethnic background has nothing to do with it.
