Depends: It would depend on your blood pressure. Unfortunately, once you start on meds, it will be very hard to come off of them. Usually, the people who can come off are the ones who lose a considerable amount of weight, or decrease their salt intake considerably, or the ones who were started on it for a temporary condition (rather rare).

You choose: If your blood pressure is high without, the damage to your blood vessels, kidneys & heart may take years before you end up on a kidney machine hoping for a transplant, but that might not happen. If you have weight associated hypertension & loose the weight your BP may normalize & you could stop. However, if you have idiopathic hypertension you will take meds for life, or accept the consequences
