How can lower leg edema be treated?

Swelling: Or edema, has several very different causes and because of that- different treatments. Water retention due to cardiac issues needs to be treated medically, vein problems can be addressed by compression hose and elevation, lymphatic swelling needs compression via stockings and lympedema pumps.

Depends on the cause: Some causes of swelling of the legs can include systemic problems such as hypertension, and problems with the kidneys and localized issues such as arthritis, infection, lymphatic obstruction, blood clots, varicose veins, trauma (fracture, sprain, tendonitis) and side effects to medication. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.
