Verruca: Time to recover from a wart depends on extent of the lesion, the treatment method used (salicylic acid, freezing, surgical removal) & rate of recurrences.

Verruca: Verruca: a wart by another name, a local growth of the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis) caused by a virus. The virus of warts (a human papillomavirus) is transmitted by contact. The contact can be with a wart on someone else or one on oneself (autoinoculation). Treatment is with salicylic-acid, nonprescription freezing, and rx by doctor-aldara, bleomycin, candida, liquid nitrogen, laser.

Not if you...: ...Bit it or sliced it or otherwise tried to treat it yourself; warts have a pretty good blood supply. If it started bleeding all by itself, it could be something that *looks* like a wart, such as a pyogenic granuloma, which is made of blood vessels and bleeds "like stink" even when we remove them.

How to shave off a verruca?

Don't shave warts.: Plantar warts on the feet can be pared with a bent razor blade to make them more comfortable to walk on. Shaving or paring warts in not a cure. See a dermatologist to treat your warts if you want them cured.

Tests for verrucas: A wart is diagnosed by its location and appearance. If uncertain as to the type of skin problem, the doctor may elect to perform any of several different tests such as a biopsy.
A 40-year-old member asked:

Are there any verruca remedies or treatments?

A wart?: I have read that, believe it or not, for a smallish wart, one can apply duct tape and leave it on until the wart goes away. If the duct tape comes off, apply some fresh duct tape. It may take some weeks. Also, there are over the counter preparations. Finally, a dermatologist can either freeze or burn it off, after administering a local anesthetic of course.
