A member asked:

Can vitamins be the cause of hard stools?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. David Nelson answered

Yes: Sometimes, iron or calcium suppliments will cause constipation. Using a stool softener like colace (docusate sodium) or surfak will help.

I take a multi vitamin with iron and magnesium. I recently have been taking half the amount of magnesium as I was and my stool is darker and harder to come out. Is this from the cut down on magnesium? I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done 3 yr ago?
