No: Plicas only very rarely cause knee pain. When we do surgery to remove the plicas, they don't return. There can sometimes be a small amount of scar folds that develop in its place but they generally don't cause pain. If you have a return of pain, the plica was unlikely to be the cause of the original pain. Hope that helps!
