Common infection: Bacterial vaginosis (bv) is a common treatable vaginal infection caused by an overgrowth and inbalance of vaginal bacteria. This upset increases ph. Nitrites in vaginal fluid causes a fishy smell. Typically BV is treated with oral Metronidazole (flagyl), rarely vaginal gel, while abstaining during treatment. Certain probiotic vaginal capsules used can help the vagina regrow normal bacterial flora.
