A member asked:

My boyfriend has been experiencing a thumping hard heartbeat not a fast heartbeat only pounding.what's this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Palpitations : A thumping or "heavy" heart beat as you describe is usually not dangerous, but can be uncomfortable. Stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, and stimulants like caffeine, nicotine, theophylline (in tea, chocolate, and peanuts) all can make things worse. It is normal to have one or two irregular heartbeats in a minute. Most people just aren't aware of it. There are blood tests to evaluate simple causes.
