A member asked:

Once considered full term in pregnancy, can i try to make myself go info labor? like natural ways. i.e the over-the-counter tea that is said to help induce labor

Yes: As long as a full-term pregnancy is established then certain things may help to promote labor. There is a point on the inner side of the shin bone called spleen 6 and a point on the hand between the web of the thumb and index finger called large intestine 4, both of these points can be massaged to help encourage and induce labor. These are acupuncture points in which acupressure can be used.

There are ways: I've seen the ads for the otc, too. It's not clear what the ingredients are or if they've been studied. However, several physical methods exist to naturally stimulate prostaglandin release at term. Intercourse, orgasm, and nipple stimulation can all help in inducing labor. Your doctor can "strip your membranes" (stretch your cervix) in the office. Enemas and lots of other remedies are useless.
