Does pregnancy lead to memory problems?

Yes: Many patients have that complaint in pregnancy, and there are a number of cause. Disruption of sleep is probably the primary reason but many physiological changes in the body compete for blood and oxygen which can affect how sharp one feels. It does get better, though your teen may not agree.

Tough question: Good news - probably nothing permanent. There may be possible hormonal and other metabolic changes in pregnancy than can inderectly influence mood, attention and lead to memory complaints, but this should not be severe. Anxiety and depression during pregnancy can interfere with concentration and result in memory complaints. One would start by talking to ob/gyn with further consults prn.
