4 to 5 months: By the 20th week of pregnancy the external genitalia changes are done. On ultrasound, if your baby is cooperating and is positioned in a favorable way, his or her sex can be identified as early as the 16th to 18th week of your pregnancy.

Depends on tech: Genital differentiation is complete by 11-12 weeks but the relative size & positioning of structures may make it difficult to call at that point.Mr turtle needs to stick his head out to get noticed & that may not happen while the ultrasound is being done.
