Need both components: Behavior therapy involves: 1. The behaviors targeted in behavioral weight-loss programs are primarily diet and exercise, which are altered through behavioral modification techniques. A "state-of-the-art" weight-loss program typically consists of 16–24 treatment sessions delivered over a 6-month period. 2. Behavioral techniques are introduced to help participants modify eating and exercise habits.

YES: Behavior modification for weight loss is more specific to the goal at hand, i.e. Weight loss. For instance - not eating after 6 pm. Behavior therapy can deal with behavioral problems of more general every day nature.
