Why is the oral polio vaccine better than the shot?

Is it?: For the most part, there is no difference but the usa stopped using the oral vaccine because there was no polio except that caused by the oral vaccine.

It isn't : Both are effective. The usa now uses the killed vaccine instead of oral because there was no natural poliobut cases of paralysis were occurring from the oral vaccine virus.

Depends on the area: The oral (live weakened) vaccine is still used in the third world because of ease of use & some beneficial local impact.Infants or adults will pass vaccine virus in their stool for weeks & secondary passage thru poor hygiene boosts immunity in the local contacts. A 1per 2million dose risk of polio from the oral vaccine made it too risky in our population where polio is so rare.
