Who gets essential tremor?

Anybody: No way to predict. There is usually a family history suggesting genetic link.

Anybody: The condition is usually genetically determined but may not appear in all generations because of reduced penetrance of the gene. The tremor starts imperceptibly, often in one limb (usually upper) but almost always is bilateral. This is an action tremor, often functionally impairing. This can begin in the 20s or 30s but is most common in the 40s or later. Medications may help. But there is no cure.
