Brain Scan: The most common technique is a ct scan which detects the overwhelming majority of subdural hematomas. Rarely, an MRI scan is needed.

CT scan of the head: Subdural hematoma is the development of a blood clot between the dura (lining of the brain) and the brain. These frequently can occur after trauma when a small vessel bleeds. Clinical history and examination can lead one to suspect a subdural hematoma (sdh). Definitive diagnosis is with a ct scan or an MRI where the blood and its location can actually be visualized.

CT of the head: A ct scan of the head is the preferred study to rule out a subdural hematoma following a head trauma. In the subacute setting, a MRI of the brain can also be helpful.
