Deep Brain Stim: The current surgical treatment for parkinson's is deep brain stimulation. This involves the placement of electrodes into the substantia nigra area of the brain. This is where the defect that causes the disease is thought to affect the brain. The use of these devices decreases tremors and rigidity and improves the quality of life of most those patient's who get them.
