Yes: Aphonia, or complete loss of the voice, coud be something as simple as swelling of the vocal cords, but there could be paralysis of one of the vocal cords. Vocal cord paralysis can be due to benign or malignant processes. It is best to have it evaluated with laryngoscopy.
