Not intentionally: Most people with anorexia are not overtly trying to kill themselves, although that could be the end result. Usually the goal is to have extreme control over weight and appearance. Perception of how "fat" or thin they are is often severely disturbed.

It can look like it: Although a patient with an can look like they are trying to kill themselves, this is rarely their motivation. Many adult patients will tell you, if asked why they won't eat enough, "i am fat or don't want to get fat", if you ask children with the same illness the same question, they are likely to say "i don't know".
