Every 6 months: You should get a dental exam every 6 months. If your dentist tells you that you have gingivitis or periodontal disease, it can be every 3 to 4 months to maintain your periodontal health. But the rule of thumb is every 6 months.

Routine is 6 months: Unless you have ongoing dental issues that require monitoring or treatment, most dentists recommend check up appointments every 6 months. This check up usually includes an exam, teeth cleaning and possibly xrays.
