Vaccines: All vaccines were created to prevent deadly diseases. All of the current vaccines available today for children and adults have proven safety. Some special vaccines for use when visiting other areas of the world can have severe side effects. Case in point are the yellow fever and oral polio vaccines that have been reported to cause the disease they were meant to prevent.

Depends: Smallpox was eradicated, so I wouldn't get that. Cholera vaccine has a short duration of effectiveness & is only a benefit if traveling in endemic areas. Typhoid is likewise a poor choice if you are not at risk of exposure. Any vaccine is only worthwhile when the benefits are evident.
