Dont panic: If locked closed is probably an anterior disc dislocation. If locked open probable subluxation of jaw out of joint space. Manipulation to close jaw, soft non chew diet for 2 weeks, nsaids and use a mandibular orthopedic appliance. If no improvement see oral surgeon to evaluate and rule out tears or perforations of the disc. An MRI may be necessary.

We can't here: This is something that you need a good old-fashioned visit to the doctor for. Call your dentist. They will probably recommend an oral surgeon.

See TMJ doc: Jaw locking is an advanced TMJ (jaw joint) problem. See a TMJ expert for guidance. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
