Very accurate: Different parts of your body have different temperatures. Compare the temperature of the toes on your foot to your armpit, for example. A rectal temperature is often one of the most accurate ways to assess a patient's "core" temperature. This is most frequently used in children who might not be able to keep a thermometer in their mouth.
