3-7 days: Typically it occurs on day 2-3 after stopping drinking, and then lasts 2-3 days, but in some cases can last weeks. In very sick alcoholics with other problems, like pneumonia, gastrointestinal bleeding, pancreatitis and other serious illnesses, it may last even longer.
