No: The majority of the time gestational diabetes resolves by 6 weeks after delivery. It is recommended that all women with gestational diabetes have another glucose tolerance test 6 weeks after delivery to confirm that the diabetes has resolved. However all women with gestational diabetes are at lifelong risk for getting diabetes in the future.

Often, But High Risk: Long term human research has shown that type ii dm typically develops over 20-30 years before meeting current DX definitions. Physicians are taught that "normal" is average to include +/-sd (the central 96% of everything), is plenty good enough. The NMR lipoprofile, which measures lipoproteins, includes an Insulin resistance score which predicts dm >10 years in advance & can help you track status.

No but : Gestational diabetes resolves after delivery. Once the placenta is out the Insulin resistance resolves. That being said the risk of developing type ii diabetes in someone who had pregnancy diabetes is very high. It is important to watch your weight and diet and increase your exercise over the next few years to decrease your risk.
