Support from many : A physician, usually an internist or a pcp to help coordinate medical care from different specialists will be helpful. This doctor along with your other docs should provide you with an understandable treatment plan as well as information about your conditions. Family and friends can be very supportive in dealing with the stresses of illness. Very often psychotherapy is also quite useful.

Life-altering illnes: I agree with dr. Blumenfield's excellent thoughts. Also, please remember that like every person alive, you also have inner healing resources that can help you. Guided imagery with a skilled therapist who works with you individually, can help you tap into these. Some say it feels like a spiritual process of reconnecting with forgotten strengths, and even in overwhelm, they no longer feel alone.
