Why is listeria monocytogenes only associated with meats which have been processed?

No: While processed meats are a common source of listeria, listeria outbreaks have also occurred due to cheese, meat spreads, and other food products. The only way to be sure that a food product does not contain listeria is to cook it.

It isn't: It's also associated with raw milk, soft cheese, raw vegetables, ice cream, raw meat and poultry.
