Longer acting med: It will depend on what else, if anything your prescriber is comfortable prescribing other than clonidine. Clonidine is a good med for getting a kid to fall asleep. Not nearly as good for keeping them asleep all night since its effects only last about 4 hours. I recommend you discuss this further with your prescriber.

Try long acting: The long acting form of Clonidine may be useful here. Brand name is kapvay. Caffeine use or late administration of stimulant medication could also play a role. Sleep is learned, add people have trouble applying what they learn. Consult prescribing doc to be sure what's appropriate for your child & there are no other reasons for the wakefulness. Btw, early rising is a typical adhd characteristic.
