Baltimore Class IV: West nile virus has a (+) sense RNA genome that resembles cellular mrna, but without a poly-a tail. This virus uses the cell's machinery, creating a polyprotein that is cleaved to both structural and non-structural (ns) proteins. One of the ns proteins is a polymerase that is responsible for synthesizing the (-) sense RNA molecule that serves as the template for (+) sense genomic progeny rna.
