A member asked:

Does the eye, if exposed to viruses/bacteria/cancer fluids, have any protective mechanisms? like the way one's immune system attacks viruses in blood?

Yes it does: There are immune cells and fluids all in and outside of our body. So the eye has its own immune system yet the bacteria and viruses can overcome it and cause infection depending on the dose and degree of exposure . Cancer cells are unlikely to cause 'infection' or be contagious.

Yes: Tear has enzymes and antibody (iga class primarily) .Lysozymes etc to act against invaders. The constant flushing from tear flow also helps cleanse the eye surface.
